The company MILLWA

...is a German-Peruvian family business with the same brand name. It specializes in producing high-quality knitwear from alpaca fiber. Within the production portfolio you will find a large selection of accessories such as hats, scarves, gloves etc. but also sweaters, cardigans, lined jackets and coats.

But how did MILLWA come about?

We have been active on the alpaca market since 2005. At that time it was mainly for our own sales at craft and Christmas markets. We quickly realized that with this comparatively small production we could create a livelihood for the people in Peru.
So in 2011 we decided to open our products to wholesalers. From initially 2 knitters and 1 hand knitting machine, we have developed into a large company and can rely on up to 100 hand knitters in the highlands. These include, for example, women's cooperatives in remote areas.
In our studio today we have several hand knitting machines for different wool thicknesses that we can use as needed. We now even have industrial knitting machines at our disposal.
In addition, there are always new collaborations, whereby we prefer to rely on small, local companies in order to continue to support the predominantly rural population of Peru. But we also cooperate with large, renowned companies in order to meet the high quality standards of the alpaca market.
We attach great importance to the sustainability of our production. We regularly hold training courses in our studio where new knitting techniques and models can be learned. We are always looking for young talents who will then be trained and trained in our studio and who we can thereby create a basis for a successful future. Young knitters can practice and learn in the studio and also realize their own creative ideas.
For the fabric collection, MILLWA works with small local tailors who produce the models to perfection. For production, the company has specialized in the finest alpaca fibers, mainly baby alpaca fibers. There is, for example, an eco-collection: which is exclusively hand-knitted and only natural, undyed fibers are used. The entire bouclé collection was also replaced by a “natural” alternative (mixed with silk and linen). Therefore, you can be sure that you are purchasing a purely natural product with excellent wearing comfort.
In 2021, MILLWA celebrated its 10th anniversary as a wholesaler of alpaca textiles.
